TEAMING UP - The Golden Boys at Caesars

Forget the fact that they can still carry a tune and that their music conjures up memories of steamy car windows and close encounters at the malt shop. The amazing thing about Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell and Fabian is that they look so good for their ages (not that their ancient, mind you) that lots of people want to walk right up to them and slap them.

Avalon, in particular, looks a good l0 years younger than his actual age (54). That, and the guy has 8 kids and is even a grandfather. And then he goes and sings something like "Venus," his signature song, and it's 1959 all over again. Ditto for Rydell, whose still got the best voice of the trip (as evidenced on his hits like "Volare," "Sway," and "Wildwood Days,") and has an equally engaging and completely unpretentious personality. And then there's Fabian, who never was much of a singer (not compared to his stage partners) but whose place in rock history will forever be safe because he was the first teen idol created by those teen idol fan magazines.

This is one of those touchy-feely shows that makes people feel like they're drinking from the fountain of youth for the 90 minutes they're in the showroom - especially for the folks who grew up listening to their music. They open and close the shows together and each gets a solo spot in the show.
